At Periodontal Associates we understand that the overwhelming fear of dental appointments can be a common cause of anxiety. Periodontal Associates focuses on the comfort, relaxation and happiness of all our patients. Our staff, from treatment coordinators, dental assistants, hygienists to doctors, will do whatever they can to reduce anxiety, fears and provide painless, quick treatments.

Since Periodontal Associates is at the technological forefront of periodontics we are able to provide effective treatments mitigating discomfort. At our practice we utilize a wide variety of safe anesthetics which eliminate pain and reduce anxiety during your appointment.

At Periodontal Associates we have put together some helpful tips to help patients who have dental anxiety.

Talk to your doctor at your appointment with Periodontal Associates – Let them know about what aspects of the procedure scare you. We are here to help you feel comfortable and at ease while assisting in your health. It is our mission to partner with our patients to achieve optimal health through personalized and collaborative care.

Bring a portable music player – Music acts as a relaxant and helps alleviate any fear-producing noises. Researchers have documented that that listening to music can be effective for reducing pain in high-anxiety persons. Investigators discovered music can be used as a distraction and is effective among those who can easily become absorbed in cognitive activities (psychcentral.com).

Agree on a signal – Many people are afraid that their Periodontist will not know they are in significant pain during the appointment, and will carry on the procedure regardless.  The best way to solve this problem is to agree on a “stop” hand signal with your doctor at Periodontal Associates. You and your doctor can easily understand signals like raising the hand or tapping on the chair.

Take a mirror – Not being able to see what is happening can increase anxiety and make the imagination run wild.  Watching your periodontal procedure can help you understand whats going on.

Sedation – If patients are more comfortable being sedated for their procedure with Periodontal Associates we do offer this option. Please call our office to discuss your options at 303-755-4500.

If you would like to schedule and appointment please call 303-755-4500.
